Date Consumed: November 2021
Who Should Read It: Anyone who finds they know what they need to do but hesitate to take the first step towards action.

We constantly tell ourselves stories about why we are not successful.
We tell ourselves that we were just born in the wrong decade, we believe that if we had more savings then we could take the risk and start our dream business, we tell ourselves that we could stop overeating if we could just be a little less stressed. More often than not we have the knowledge of what to do. What we are missing in action, and in particular, the action to start.
In Mel’s book, she introduces her secret sauce for taking action and gives countless examples of where this tool works and the science behind it.
Book Summary:
The 5 Second Rule is just that. A 5 Second Rule. Whenever you want to do something just count down: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and by the time you get to 1 you need to be taking action. The 5 Second Rule uses the power of habit and interrupts your standard patterns to actually give you the PUSH to take action.
Unfortunately for Mel, it is an extremely simple tool, fortunately for her, it works. The book can come across as very repetitive and can turn into a boring read. I recommend listening to it on Audible if you have the opportunity.
As simple as the concept is, I find myself using it daily; it always works.
Key Take Away:
-
The difference between success and failure in many parts of life can come down to just taking the first step
-
Use The 5 Second Rule any time you know you should do something but are struggling to take action
-
It can change your life, and literally takes 5 seconds.
